The Noctua NH-D15 G2 is the second generation of Noctua’s venerable NH-D15 desktop tower cooler with even more efficiency.
The Noctua NH-D15 G2 is the second generation of Noctua’s venerable NH-D15 desktop tower cooler. This new generation doesn’t necessarily have one consequential change but rather several small changes that combine for significant improvements.
Noctua has spent years developing a new tower, fans, and a new way to consider cooling our CPUs. The most obvious change is that it now comes in three variations: Low Base Convexity, High Base Convexity, and Medium Base Convexity (or “regular”). These minor differences allow for better contact and improved cooling on matching CPUs.
Another change is the fans. The NF-A14x25r G2 fans are brand-new fans explicitly designed for the NH-D15 G2. They’re made of a particular type of plastic called Sterrox® LCP. This plastic doesn’t stretch or deform over time due to heat cycles and age, allowing the gap between the flan blades and frame to be significantly reduced. This reduction increased the static pressure (or, more specifically, a better optimized P/Q curve, which is the relationship between airflow and static pressure), which allowed Noctua to increase the density of the fin stack on the tower. This increased density in the fin stack allowed them to make the cooler smaller than the previous generation NH-D15 while improving performance. As I said, lots of small changes add up to big improvements. The two included fans also spin at slightly different RPMs, reducing constructive interference in their noise profiles and allowing them to stay quieter than the last generation.
