Eaton Unveils Heavy-Duty SmartRack Enclosures for AI Data Centers

Built for data centers, the Eaton heavy-duty enclosures offer flexibility and power to support AI’s highest demands.

Eaton has announced the availability of its Heavy-Duty SmartRack enclosures, a product line designed to support the growing physical and operational demands of generative AI computing infrastructure in data centers. As AI applications surge, operators face the challenge of accommodating advanced GPU servers that are larger and heavier than conventional CPU systems, requiring structural support and adaptability.

With weight capacities of up to 5,000 pounds in static load and 54-inch depths for extra-large servers, Eaton’s SmartRack enclosures offer a scalable solution for data centers in the enterprise, colocation, and hyperscale environments.

AI servers with demanding power requirements require comprehensive structural support and efficient organization for safe, uninterrupted performance. Eaton’s SmartRack enclosures meet these needs through reinforced steel construction, enhanced load-bearing capacity, and advanced organizational features designed specifically to support high-powered AI systems’ weight and cooling requirements.

These enclosures are available in 42U, 45U, and 48U and offer standard, deep, and extra-deep options to accommodate various equipment configurations. Designed for immediate needs and future-proofing, the enclosures have perforated doors for improved airflow, spacious cable routing channels, and durable side panels to house and organize the increasingly complex infrastructure required for AI computing.

A key feature of the Eaton Heavy-Duty SmartRack line is its modularity. Configurations can be tailored to specific setups. Various models support requirements, from PCI DSS compliance to enhanced airflow management.

For typical installations, the 42U models would be more than adequate. The 42U models include:

  • SRH42UW: A 42U Standard-Depth, Standard-Width model with a 5,000-pound stationary load capacity and reinforced steel for robust AI server support.
  • SRH42UWDP: Designed for heavier loads, this 42U model offers a 46-inch depth to support larger AI servers and enhance cooling.
  • SRH42UWDP54: This 42U Extra-Deep enclosure, with a 54-inch depth, supports dense AI setups needing extensive cooling and cable organization.
  • SRH42UWDP54WD8: Featuring a 54-inch depth and 31.5-inch width, this extra-wide 42U model accommodates high-density accessories and improved cable management.
  • SRH42UWDPWD8: With a 46-inch depth and additional width, this 42U configuration enhances airflow and accessory mounting options.
  • SRH42UWWD8: This 42U Standard-Depth, Extra-Width model provides a 41-inch depth and 800mm width, optimizing airflow and cable organization space.

For larger installations, 45U models meet most needs:

  • SRH45UW: A Standard-Depth, Standard-Width enclosure with a 45U height, enabling high-density configurations.
  • SRH45UWDP: This 45U Deep model offers additional depth for large network and AI setups, optimizing space for cable routing and cooling.
  • SRH45UWDP54: At 45U height and Extra-Deep configuration, this model is tailored for applications that require substantial equipment space.
  • SRH45UWDP54WD8: Combining a 45U height with extra depth and width, it is ideal for heavy-duty AI setups needing maximum space for airflow.
  • SRH45UWDPWD8: This model offers a 45U height with added cable and equipment space for Deep, Extra-Wide requirements.
  • SRH45UWWD8: Designed with a 45U Standard-Depth, Extra-Width for added cable routing and cooling support.

For large-scale, high-capacity setups, Eaton’s 48U models include:

  • SRH48UW: A Standard-Depth, Standard-Width enclosure in 48U for extensive installations.
  • SRH48UWDP: This 48U Deep configuration meets the needs of expansive AI setups with additional rear and side equipment space.
  • SRH48UWDP54: An Extra-Deep model in 48U for high-density configurations requiring cable management and efficient airflow.
  • SRH48UWDP54WD8: This Extra-Deep, Extra-Wide 48U model maximizes internal space for advanced AI setups.
  • SRH48UWDPWD8: Featuring Deep, Extra-Wide dimensions, this 48U model supports advanced cable and airflow management.
  • SRH48UWWD8: With 48U Standard-Depth and Extra-Width, this enclosure is suitable for broad AI setups needing efficient cooling and cable access.

Eaton’s SmartRack enclosures incorporate a white, powder-coated finish to enhance visibility, making it easier for technicians to perform maintenance, identify ports, and manage cables. This design aligns with Eaton’s modular build program, which supports quick customization and delivery of enclosures bundled with other infrastructure essentials, like rack PDUs, uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs), cooling systems, and cable management tools.

Eaton’s Heavy-Duty SmartRack enclosures are now available.
