VergeIO launches ioOptimize, leveraging machine learning and narrow AI to extend the life of hardware and improve VergeIO’s flexibility.
VergeIO has launched ioOptimize, a new integrated service within its VergeOS, to change how organizations manage their IT infrastructure. Leveraging machine learning (ML) and narrow artificial intelligence (AI), ioOptimize adds to VergeOS’ flexibility, enabling organizations to extend the service life of their servers beyond their expected lifespan. By decoupling the software from specific hardware, ioOptimize gives IT teams greater control over their environments at no additional cost.
ioOptimize empowers organizations to run VergeOS seamlessly across various hardware generations. It supports a variety of CPUs, storage media, and network equipment, ensuring that new and aging servers from multiple vendors can operate seamlessly within the same infrastructure. With ioOptimize, organizations can manage mixed environments without being constrained by hardware compatibility issues.
One of ioOptimize’s key features is automatically migrating virtual machines (VMs) from older or failing servers to more capable nodes. This ensures continuous service, minimizing downtime and extending the functional lifespan of IT assets. As Greg Campbell, CTO of VergeIO, explains, “ioOptimize manages workload placement, dynamically migrating VMs as servers age or fail, which significantly reduces downtime and helps organizations maximize their hardware investments.”
In addition to extending the life of existing hardware, ioOptimize enables organizations to stay competitive by rapidly incorporating new hardware. Typically, traditional systems require time-consuming, hard-coded updates to accommodate new technology. IoOptimize dynamically learns and adapts to new hardware capabilities.
With the release of VergeOS 4.13, ioOptimize introduced an “automated scale-down” feature. This allows organizations to reduce the number of servers while increasing overall performance and capacity. This automated scale-down consolidates hardware and enables seamless migration of VMs and data from older systems to more powerful, newer servers. Administrators receive notifications to power down the old servers once the migration is complete.
With the capability to consolidate hardware and reduce the number of servers, ioOptimize becomes a key player in lowering TCO and supporting sustainability goals. Fewer servers result in less energy consumption, reduced cooling needs, and smaller physical data center footprints, directly contributing to more energy-efficient operations. These benefits align with many enterprises’ efforts to reduce carbon emissions and enhance sustainability while cutting costs.
VergeIO’s licensing model supports sustainability by allowing server-based licensing. This means organizations can use high-density, multi-core servers without incurring extra fees, enabling the transition to quad-processor servers with hundreds of cores while maximizing efficiency and reducing licensing costs.
VergeIO’s licensing model eliminates the financial barriers of deploying powerful hardware. Some licensing models impose additional fees for using high-density servers. VergeIO’s approach allows customers to deploy advanced, dense servers that reduce energy usage, cooling requirements, and overall data center footprint. With VergeIO, enterprises can adopt cutting-edge hardware without facing extreme licensing costs.
